To that end, G map The Devil Is in the Detail is the most rewarding map I've played. I prefer some asymmetry at the start so the player has some odds to overcome vs everyone starting out in relatively equal starting positions (though I still love plenty of maps like that too - just less challenging). ![]() Finally, I prefer maps with one or more computer-only players. But I don't want to have to utilize every exploit/trick or choreograph every turn. It's rewarding finishing a map where I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone (expand faster, accept that I can't hold every castle I take, run from overwhelming odds, etc). I prefer maps that allow for sub-optimal play. I prefer maps where you have to build up from a small starting area but not maps where you play as a single hero journeying through the world facing an arrangement of events you need to do in a particular order. I like big maps with lots to discover/explore and that restrict certain spells from appearing in mage guilds (Town Portal, Fly, DD) but do allow a path to eventually earning one or more of them so the map doesn't become a too much of a slog once victory becomes clear.
